Your toddler has discovered the wall button. You want to know, from someone who checks these things for a living, that the door will stop and reverse if a small person is under it.
Garage Door Safety Inspection
A garage door in Welland that gets looked over once a year rarely surprises anyone. We set up a simple schedule: spring tension checked, rollers and hinges lubricated, cables inspected for fraying, photo-eyes cleaned and aligned, opener force retested. Small visits like that push the big repair years down the road.
Garage door services
Households in Welland mostly need three things from us over the life of a door: a tune-up now and then, a spring or cable when one lets go, and a new opener or door when the old one is finished. Every one of those, plus the smaller jobs between, is covered below.

Off-Track Garage Door ResetYour car is inside and the door is stuck crooked across the opening.
Garage Door Perimeter WeatherstripThe vinyl strip around the door used to be soft and white.
Garage Door Hinge ReplacementEvery time the door goes up there is a sharp pop from the same spot, about a metre off the floor, and the whole door gives a…
Garage Door Track Repair or ReplacementThe horizontal rail toward the back of the garage sags noticeably.
Garage Door Balance AdjustmentSomeone replaced the springs a while back and the door has bounced at the top ever since.
Photo-Eye Sensor Alignment or ReplacementYou press the remote, the door drops a few centimetres, then climbs straight back to the top while the opener light blinks.
Full-View Glass Garage Door InstallationYour workshop faces the driveway and needs a professional, welcoming frontage without putting tools on display.
Commercial Rolling Door RepairThe rolling door starts upward, then one side rises ahead of the other.Springs
Nothing on a garage door stores more energy than a wound spring. Handling it well means securing the door, releasing the tension in a controlled way, fitting the correct replacement and rewinding to the right count.

Openers
Openers have a travel limit and a force limit, and both drift with age. When the door stops short of the floor, or slams into it, those settings are the first thing we adjust, followed by the safety reversal test.

Welland
In Welland we have found that most people simply want to understand what happened to their door. So the technician explains as he goes: why the spring broke, what a balanced door feels like, how the sensors work. You end up knowing your door better and knowing what to listen for next time.

2021 census · what it means at the door
66%Older homes
About 66% of homes in Welland were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Older garages tend to have lower headroom and narrower single openings, so replacement doors and openers are chosen to fit the space rather than the other way round. Measuring the header, side room and ceiling depth is the first step on every one of these visits.
65%Mostly houses
Single-detached houses make up about 65% of homes in Welland (2021 Census).
In a neighbourhood of houses, each garage door is chosen by the household, so styles vary from one driveway to the next. When it is time for a new door, homeowners pick panel design, windows, colour and insulation freely, and we bring samples to compare against the siding.

Garage Door Safety Inspection
Your toddler has discovered the wall button. You want to know, from someone who checks these things for a living, that the door will stop and reverse if a small person is under it.
Garage Door Safety InspectionIt is the contact-reversal check. A short length of 2x4 lies flat on the floor in the middle of the opening and the door is closed from the wall button. When the bottom edge meets the wood, the door should halt and travel back up without help. Passing shows the opener's down-force and travel limits are set to back off from something solid. The technician never substitutes a hand or foot for the board.
Once a year suits most attached garages here, ideally in the fall before cold weather thickens lubricant and stiffens seals. Door and opener makers suggest lubrication every three to six months and a homeowner balance check and reversal test every month, so an annual professional visit sits on top of that light routine. A lightly used door in a detached garage may go longer; a heavily used one, or one exposed to salt spray, benefits from a spring check too.
A sectional door is strong in the direction it travels and surprisingly easy to push sideways at a single roller. A light nudge on the bottom section can flex the track lip enough for the roller to slip out, after which the section twists and the rollers above follow. The good news is that this kind of event usually leaves the cables and springs alone, so the reset is often rollers, a re-formed track lip and a hinge check.
The fin is meant to bend against the door with a small, even deflection. That is enough to seal, and it lets the fin spring clear as the door lifts. Pressed hard, it drags on the door face, folds under on the way down, squeals and wears through well before its time, and it adds load to the opener. Set too far off, it leaves a standing gap. The light touch is the setting that lasts.
It is better to leave the door closed and use another way in and out. A joint with a failed hinge flexes more on every trip, which strains the neighbouring hinges, can pull a roller out of the track and can crease the panel itself. If the door is already open or stuck partway, leave it where it is rather than running the opener again. A closed, still door is what the technician hopes to find.
